Seven private sector members sit on the SWANA International Board of Directors (IB). These members represent different private sector views (finance, services, consulting, sales, manufacturing, legal and materials recovery and diversion), and help the Board maintain a balanced view on municipal solid waste management. Individuals are elected to the positions by all SWANA private sector members and serve a three-year term.
Joe Murdoch, HDR, (Consulting Category), Ernie Heins, Agru America, Inc., (Manufacturing Category) and Kerry Kelly, Waste Management, (Services Category) will be completing their terms at the end of the August 2016 annual Board meeting in Indianapolis, Indiana.
The Category descriptions are:
• CONSULTING – should be employed as a consultant in a company involved in municipal solid waste management matters.
• MANUFACTURING – should be employed in a company engaged in the manufacturing of products for municipal solid waste management and should be involved in the manufacturing side of the company.
• SERVICES – should be employed in a company involved in the contract of solid waste management systems services.
Members of the Board are expected to attend two Board meetings each year, one at WASTECON® and one mid-year at a site in the United States or Canada, as well as serve on one of the four Board committees—Finance, Policy, Planning, Membership/Chapters.

All Private Sector Members in good-standing are eligible to vote. Elections will be conducted online beginning June 2016.
