S is for Safety
Are You Ready for the New Safety Technology Mandates?
Dear Fleet Manager,
As of May 2018, all new vehicles with a GVWR of fewer than 10,000 pounds—including buses and on-road trucks—must be equipped with rear visibility technology to comply with the FMVSS 111 mandate. This final rule by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is part of an ongoing effort to reduce an average of 210 fatalities and 15,000 injuries caused by reversing vehicles each year.
Along with other safety technologies, the use of backing cameras on cars, buses, and light-weight trucks represents yet another attempt to put an end to the rising rate of vehicle accidents in the US.
Our friends at Preco Electronics, providers of heavy-duty safety solutions worldwide, provided this report to help you understand the technology to prevent backing accidents in commercial fleets. Read it to learn how third-party technology can prevent accidents and save lives.
When you read “S is for Safety” you will:
- Discover how radar-based object detection solutions have shown reductions of up to 85% in collisions
- Learn how a combination of active and passive safety systems compliment each other
- See how adding a camera and monitor to active safety systems increases the efficiency and productivity of vehicle operators
