When the China Waste Ban went into effect, the recycling industry was turned almost completely upside down. That may be overstating it a bit, but let’s be honest, it was an extremely difficult pill to swallow. I declared that we needed to discover new ways of doing things and not just new markets for recyclables.
The discoveries to come may take some time, but I’m confident they will come. Take for example Marshall Medoff. I found out about him while watching 60 Minutes over the weekend. Mr. Medoff is an 81-year-old inventor from Massachusetts. He has no formal scientific education. Yet he seems to have solved one of the biggest scientific problems of the modern day—accessing sugar molecules in plant materials for fuel.
Take the time to watch the segment. It wasn’t easy for Medoff to find the answer. And it came to him after great sacrifice.
